Richmond S. McCoy is the president and CEO of UrbanAmerica Advisors. In 1998, Mr. McCoy co-founded the predecessor company—UrbanAmerica, LP—and began facilitating the institutional investment community’s entry into urban markets. Under his guidance, the company became a leader in urban core investment. It is one of the first institutional real estate advisors to focus on acquiring and developing properties in America’s urban markets. Through extensive relationships in industry, government, and the institutional marketplace, Mr. McCoy engendered the confidence of prominent banks, insurance companies, pension funds, and private corporations to invest capital in communities of diversity in the urban core of major U.S. metropolitan markets.
Mr. McCoy raised equity totaling $520 million which—through prudent deployment—created more than 6,100 jobs for residents of the areas where the company has invested. He spearheaded the acquisition of a portfolio totaling more than 10 million square feet and valued in excess of $2 billion. Over the course of his 28-year career, Mr. McCoy has consummated more than $6 billion in real estate transactions.
Mr. McCoy has received recognition from many organizations for his exemplary achievements and leadership, including the National Brotherhood & Sisterhood Award, National Conference of Christians and Jews, Real Estate & Construction Industry Group; Urban Bankers’ Coalition–Business Executive of the Year; and the 100 Black Men of America, Inc.–Award for Outstanding Achievement in Business.
Mr. McCoy is a board member of New Markets Tax Credits Coalition and board member and vice chairman of the Real Estate Executive Council (REEC). He is a member of Pension Real Estate Association (PREA) and the National Association of Black Hotel Owners, Operators & Developers (NABHOOD). He also is a member of the Marathon Club, the National Black MBA Association, Inc. and serves on the editorial advisory board of Institutional Real Estate, Inc.
